Baggage allowance is something that passengers gravely have to take into consideration when travelling with an airline. You can always travel underweight but boarding a flight with overweight baggage would only cause luggage-carrying hassles for you. Not only you would be charged more to carry overweight baggage but also if it exceeds a certain limit, the airline has the authority to ask you to remove the extra things from your luggage. So, when travelling with Ethiopian airlines, here are some of the baggage allowances rules to know about. You can add an extra bag by online in the section of Ethiopian airline manage booking.
Free baggage allowance.
Carry-on luggage.
- For economy class tickets, passengers are only allowed to carry hand luggage in-flight that can be up to 7 kg in weight and 23cm x 40cm x 55cm in its Length, Width and Height respectively.
- For business class tickets, passengers are allowed up to two bags of hand luggage to be carried in a flight cabin of 7 Kg weight each. However, the dimension of each bag should not exceed 23cm x 40cm x 55cm in its Length, Width and Height limit respectively.
Checked-in luggage.
- For the economy class tickets, checked-in luggage allowed consists of up to two bags of 23 Kg each and the sum of dimensions not more than 158 cm.
- For business class tickets, passengers are given two options for their free checked-in baggage allowance. Yet the dimensions should not be more than 158 cm.
1- Two bags of 32 Kg weight each.
2- Three bags of 23 Kg weight each.
Overweight baggage rules and regulations.
If a passenger is carrying excess baggage there are two kinds of possibilities;
- If the carry-on baggage of the passenger is overweight, he/she would be asked to adjust the extra things into the checked-in luggage (if the space is available there).
- If one’s carry-on luggage as well as checked-in luggage becomes overweight (even more than the maximum limit of excess baggage allowance), such a passenger would have to compromise on not travelling with the excess baggage.
Excess baggage fee.
For the passenger of Economy Class as well as Business class, the max limit of baggage allowance cannot be crossed. Yet, for overweight baggage, the passengers have to pay an extra fee. This excess baggage fee can range from USD 20 to USD 300 depending upon varus factors.
To carry excess baggage with Ethiopian Airlines, a fee will be charged depending upon the passengers;
- Type of ticket (business or economy).
- Route and Destination type.
- Per Kg or Per bag charging methodology.
If you are travelling to/from the United States of America and Canada, only the per-piece concept of baggage applies.
So, if you are travelling with Ethiopian Airlines soon, these are the rules and regulations regarding overweight baggage extra fees that you must know about and avoid any hassle later.
