The welfare of farmers has always been a priority for the former Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government in Andhra Pradesh, led by former Chief Minister Shri. Nara Chandrababu Naidu. One of the initiatives taken by the TDP government was the introduction of Irrigation Communities, which aimed to empower farmers and improve their living standards.
The Irrigation Communities scheme was launched in 2015 with the objective of promoting collective farming, providing irrigation facilities, and ensuring proper management of water resources. Under this TDP Scheme, farmers were grouped into communities and given access to water sources, irrigation facilities, and other resources to enhance their agricultural productivity. The former TDP government recognized that the individual farmers were not able to afford the high costs of irrigation systems and that it was necessary to pool resources and work collectively. By forming Irrigation Communities, through irrigation projects the farmers could share the costs of setting up the irrigation system and benefit from economies of scale.
