To better work on the referencing of a site, it is important to realize the research habits of Internet users on Google. You can use different tools for it as people are using bulk url opener to open multiple urls within a minute.
SEO tool company Yooda released an infographic “From Keyword to Search Intent” in 2016 that reveals a bit of these different behaviors.
Key elements of Google search habits:
3.5 words on average in searches: a third of the search expressions used on Google.fr by Internet users contain 3 words (1 word = 2.4%, 2 words = 22.9%, 3 words = 34.1 % , 4 words = 22%, 5 words = 10.8%, 6 words = 4.6%). Long tail keywords are therefore typed more than a single word in the search engine.
Facebook is the most sought-after brand: in order not to have to type the full address of a site in the bar of their browser, Internet users go through Google. These searches are called "navigational" searches and represent a good part of the total searches on Google.fr. Here are the most searched brands in descending order: Facebook, Youtube, Le bon Coin, Google, Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo, Youporn, Amazon, Leboncoin.
30 million “How” questions: no less than 30 million searches are formulated every month in the form of questions. 61% of Internet users who search in the form of a question are looking for “How…”. Here are some examples of the questions most frequently asked by Internet users: “How to make love? » (74K), « How to lose weight? » (33.1K), « How to draw? » (27.1K), « How to hack a facebook account? » (22.2K), « How to lose belly? (22.2K).
The term “cheap” in e-commerce: Internet searches for a product they want to buy are called “transactional” searches . Some queries indicate a very similar purchase intention. The most used is “productname + cheap” with 16 million searches per month. There are around 2M searches/month for the “purchase + product” and “buy + product” queries and around 14M searches for the “price + product” queries.
The mention “best” in a request : whether in B to B or B to C, Internet users are used to looking for the “best burger restaurant” or even the “best agency of…”. Think about it for your site too!
What should we take away from this Yooda study?
YodaThis study is very interesting because it helps guide SEO choices for a particular site. It will therefore be important not to focus on overly generic terms but to give more importance to long tail keywords , which are more commonly typed on Google today. Moreover, if you have an e-commerce site, don't forget that the mentions "cheap" and "price + product" are also very popular and therefore very important.
Regarding informational searches starting with "How", they can be interesting if you have a blog for example. Do not hesitate to title your articles by opting for a simple question and starting with “How”.
In SEO, it is therefore important to be attentive to updates to Google's algorithms but also to the habits of Internet users on the search engine. These habits indeed represent the bases of a good choice of keywords and are therefore essential for the work of natural referencing.
