A Quick and Easy Guide to Applying Liquid Eyeliner Like a Beauty Pro
The flexible, loose bristles of the liquid eyeliners resemble those of a paintbrush. As a result, liquid eyeliners are great for creating a variety of eyeliner widths—whether you want a thicker, bolder wing or just a thin, elegant sweep across your lash line. Of course, whether you use a liquid eyeliner with a brush tip or a felt tip depends on the kind of look you want to achieve and how comfortable you are with each applicator.
How to Apply Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner for Beginners:
If you haven't used liquid eyeliner before, don't worry—we're here to take the guesswork out of applying it. The following method works especially well on monolid, round, and almond eye shapes and is ideal for beginners or people whose hands are shaky.
- To begin, place a flat surface in front of a mirror on which you will rest the elbow of the arm you will use to apply your best waterproof eyeliner.
- Hold the liquid eyeliner in your hand like a pencil and place your pinky on your cheek. This should be the pinky of the hand you use to apply the eyeliner.
- Either look straight ahead or slightly tilt your head back and look in the mirror: whichever provides you with the best opportunity to see your upper lash line.
- Make small dots or dashes as close to the lash line as you can with the brush at eye level to get started.
- Continue the dots as far as you like, at a slight angle, toward the end of your brow when you reach the end of your upper lash line.
- Start your wing from the bottom of your eyelashes if you have a shape of eyes with only one lid or little space between your lids. Sweep in to meet your upper lash line as you work from the outer edge of your lower lash line toward the end of your brow. You can create a stunning graphic wing shape by filling in the empty space.
How to Apply Liquid Eyeliner if You're...Intermediate:
-
This method works best if you've used liquid eyeliner before or have almond or upturned eye shapes.
-
Place the elbow of your arm that you will use to apply eyeliner on a flat surface in front of a mirror.
-
Until you can clearly see your upper lash line, either look straight ahead or slightly tilt your head back and look down at the mirror.
-
Start in the middle of your eyelid. Draw a single line from the top of your lash line toward the outer corner of your eye, resting your pinky on your cheek if necessary.
-
Then, draw a second line out of the centre of the lid at a slightly steeper angle than the first so that when the two lines meet at the outer corner of your eye, they form an unfilled triangle. From the outer corner of your eye to the inner corner, use long, fluid strokes to fill in the triangle.
-
Line the bottom lash line with the eyeliner for a more dramatic or graphic appearance, then sweep up at the outer corner to connect to the thickest part of the wing on the upper lash line.
-
Applying a few coats of mascara and setting the line with eyeshadow of the same color is the final step.
How To Use Liquid Eyeliner Like A Pro: Who Really Needs A Makeup Artist?
-
You are composed, cool, and collected when it comes to liquid eyeliner, and you are ready to rock any look you can think of. If you have steady hands and almond or downturned eye shapes, the following method is a great way to expand your makeup look toolkit quickly and easily.
-
For optimal control, rest your elbow on a flat surface in front of a mirror.
-
Depending on how you usually look, you can either look straight ahead or tilt your head back and slightly look down at the mirror. Sweep the liquid liner toward the eyelid while remaining close to the lash line, beginning at the outer corner of your eye.
-
-
The stroke should be repeated, but this time you should wait until you reach the centre of your eyelid to meet the upper lash line, leaving you with an empty triangle.
-
-
-
Continue sweeping the brush toward the inner corner of the eye to complete the triangle. As always, keep the liner as close as possible to the lash line.
-
Do not apply the liner all the way to the inner half of your eye if you want your eyes to look higher. Instead, apply the liner gradually and taper it until it disappears near the middle of your upper lash line.
-
Apply mascara to finish and set the liner with eyeshadow.
