Also known as West Indian Sandalwood this is also used as a substitute for Eastern Sandalwood. Because of its very high oil content, native peoples burned it as a torch to light their path through darkness; so another name for it is Torchwood. Many people like to use Amyris Essential Oil as a sustainably alternative option to its endangered cousin, the Indian Sandalwood. The viscosity and aroma of Amyris compared with Sandalwood is rather different as Amyris is a bit more herbal, but it functions similarly and is much less pricey.
