Near the urban communities, yet offering a wild peacefulness that is elating. That is the appeal of the Rajaji National public park, generally renowned for its elephant populace. Situated at the Himalayan lower regions, close to Haridwar, Rishikesh and Dehradun, with Ganga and Song waterways, coursing through it, the recreation area is known for its beautiful magnificence and rich bio-variety. A heaven for nature sweethearts and untamed life fans, the recreation area is home to elephants, tigers, panthers, deers and ghorals, and a wide assortment of birds. In 1983, three safe-havens in Uttarakhand - Rajaji, Motichur and Chilla - were amalgamated into a huge safeguarded region and named Rajaji National Park, to pay tribute to political dissident and first lead representative general of India Late C Rajagopalachari; prominently known as "Rajaji".

 

This region is the north-western restriction of Asian elephants. Spread over an area of 820.42 sq km, Rajaji is an eminent environment settled in the Shivalik ranges toward the beginning of the immense Indo-Gangetic fields, consequently addressing vegetation of a few unmistakable zones and woodland types.
