The history of cricket is extremely cloudy and hazy, however it is thought that the sport originated in England in the 16th century. The world's first cricket club was founded in 1760, the first cricket match was first observed in 1646 in Kent, England, and the game's rules were codified in 1744. The LBW law was initially enacted in 1774, while the breadth of a cricket bat was restricted to four and 14 inches in 1771. The newly founded Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) then undertook a significant overhaul of the sport's original laws in 1788 and released their own revised Laws of Cricket.
