Christmas will be the coldest in the US in decades due to a winter storm
Forecasters say that the strong winter storm this week could make some parts of the US have their coldest Christmas in 40 years.
US Christmas in Cold

The "bomb cyclone" will develop into a “once-in-a-generation” cold spell by Friday after starting on Tuesday in the Pacific Northwest. Winter weather alerts are in effect for more than 90 million people in 37 states. The majority of the country, including Texas in the South, is expected to suffer below freezing temperatures.

According to estimates quoted by US media, the arctic blast, which the Weather Channel has named 3 Winter Storm Elliot is predicted to bring the Midwest’s coldest Christmas since the late 1980s. Even the Sunshine State of Florida is expected to see its coldest Christmas in thirty years. By the end of this week, certain sections of the country might experience bone-chilling temperature between -50F and -70F, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

As the storm approaches the Great Lakes region, where its pressure is anticipated to reach the equivalent of a Category 3 hurricane, the NWS has dubbed it a once-in-a-generation winter weather event. State of emergencies has been proclaimed by the governors of North Caroline and Kentucky.
