Type 1 diabetes, also referred to as insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM), is a kind of diabetes that interferes with how the body uses sugar spurred on by the production of autoantibodies, such as insulin and islet cell antibodies, by macrophages and T lymphocytes against beta-cell antigens. Children and young adults are typically where it begins. Consequently, it is also known as juvenile diabetes.
