As mentioned earlier there are five types of hepatitis viruses: A, B, C, D, and E. It is important to be aware of the symptoms and risks associated with each type.

  • Hepatitis A is a highly contagious liver infection caused by the hepatitis A virus. It is usually spread through contact with the feces of an infected person and is most common in developing countries. Symptoms include fever, fatigue, nausea, and vomiting. Most people recover without treatment, but it can cause serious liver damage in some cases. It can be prevented by washing hands thoroughly and avoiding contact with contaminated surfaces.
  • Hepatitis B is a virus that attacks the liver and can cause serious damage. It is spread through contact with the blood or bodily fluids of an infected person. Symptoms include fever, fatigue, nausea, and vomiting. It can be deadly in some cases, and there is no cure. However, there is a vaccine that can prevent hepatitis B. Vaccination is highly recommended for all children and adults.
  • Hepatitis C is a virus that attacks the liver and can cause serious damage. It is spread through contact with the blood or bodily fluids of an infected person. Symptoms include fever, fatigue, nausea, and vomiting. There is no cure for hepatitis C, but it can be treated with medication. Treatment is expensive, but it is highly effective in most cases.
  • Hepatitis D is a virus that attacks the liver and can only infect people who are already infected with hepatitis B. It is spread through contact with the blood or bodily fluids of an infected person. Symptoms include fever, fatigue, nausea, and vomiting.
