The death toll from floods and landslides in India rises to 147 135 people have died so far in the western state of Maharashtra due to floods and landslides caused by heavy rains. Nine others lost their lives in the southern state of Karnataka.
The death toll may rise further. Efforts are being made to rescue people trapped in the mud and debris in the landslide areas. Rescue workers are also trying to rescue the victims from the flooded houses.
According to the information from the local media, flood situation has arisen in several states due to the rains of this season. Ratnagiri, Raigarh, and Satara districts of Maharashtra are the most affected. Landslides have also occurred in these areas.
Flood waters have receded slightly in the eastern state of Odisha. However, there was no visible improvement in the situation. Much of the state's coastal city of Puri is still submerged in floodwaters. Many houses and buildings are underwater.
The situation is similar in another state Madhya Pradesh. The cities of Patna and Vidisha were the worst affected by the floods in the state. Although the situation has improved in Patna, fresh floods have occurred in Vidisha.
