Critical incident support in the workplace
What is critical incident support, and what role does it play in the workplace?

Critical incident support is a type of psychological support designed to help employees at your organisation respond to and cope with these unexpected events. In particular, it involves providing immediate counselling and psychological support in response to unexpected and traumatic incidents at the workplace:

  • Workplace injury or death
  • Natural disaster or industrial accident
  • Suicide or attempted suicide
  • Armed robbery
  • Assault or violence in the workplace
  • Serious near-misses or safety incident

Each of these incidents can result in significant grief or trauma which can seriously impact psychological wellbeing and mental health of your staff. Critical incident support offers immediate and prompt response, with services including ongoing counselling, group or individual support, and psychological resources to help you care for your team and help them process events and minimise psychological harm.

It is often offered as part of a workplace Employee Assistance Program.
