Importance of Hemoglobin & Role of Hemoglobin Meter
Hemoglobin meters are usually used for measuring hemoglobin & hematocrit levels in blood. Normally, Hemoglobin tests are done to detect the RBC count for analyzing the severity of anaemia, hematocrit and others.

The word hemoglobin comes from the words "heme" and "globin". Globin is a general term that is used for globular proteins. The name "heme" signifies that any single subunit of hemoglobin is made of a heme embedded in a globular protein. There exist many "heme" containing hemoglobin & proteins, among which hemoglobin A is the most commonly known.

Hemoglobin, Commonly abbreviated as Hb, or Haemoglobin is the iron containing oxygen in red blood cells which transport metalloproteins. All mammals have hemoglobin, as it is a vital component in the blood. It contains globin, apoprotein, and organic molecules with one atom of iron attached to each. The gene for the hemoglobin protein can also sometimes mutate. This Mutation often results in many diseases, but is most commonly associated with Thalassemia or Sickle-cell disease.

Diving a Little More Into Hemoglobin

Heme groups are found in each subunit of a hemoglobin molecule. The heme group will consist of a single iron atom which is held in a hetero cyclic ring, commonly known as a porphyrin. These iron atoms have oxygen binding properties. This atom binds itself equally to all four nitrogen in the center of the hetero cyclic ring, which lies on one plane. For the fifth and sixth positions, iron bonds are sometimes formed with a plane perpendicular to the plane on each side.

The most common hemoglobin in adults is tetramer which is a hemoglobin containing 4 subunit proteins called hemoglobin A. Subunits are similar in structure and approximately the same size. The molecular weight of each subunit is about 16,000 Dalton, for a total combined weight in the tetramer of approximately 64,000 Dalton. There is only one heme present in each subunit of hemoglobin. This means that the binding capacity of human hemoglobin for oxygen is four oxygen molecules.

Introduction to Hemoglobin Meter

Hemoglobin meters are usually used for measuring hemoglobin & hematocrit levels in blood. Normally, Hemoglobin tests are done to detect the RBC count for analyzing the severity of anaemia, hematocrit and others. It is commonly used during blood donations or while taking important decisions regarding blood transfusions. Hemoglobin meters are used to diagnose diseases that might affect the red blood cells or to know the hemoglobin levels in the blood. Monitoring hemoglobin levels is important to check the anaemic condition in children and adults as anaemia can be a doorway to several other diseases.

Importance of Hemoglobin Monitoring

Regular Hemoglobin Levels Monitoring can be easily done using Hemo Spark, a highly advanced Haemoglobin meter from Sensa Core. This portable digital hemoglobin meter has a large LCD display to see the reading of the hemoglobin levels and a strip holder for placing the testing strips. Hemo Spark comes with soft touch keys that have auto calibration functionality for high performance of the Meter. It is very easy to handle and provides instant & accurate results within 30 seconds.
